About Us

In 1964, after the passing of Hendrick Meijer (who was himself a barber), previous owner Joe Nguyen opened his barber shop inside the brand new Meijer store on Westnedge Avenue.  This was at the behest of Fredrick Meijer who wanted to honor his late father. After a few years, he opened several other locations in Lansing, Jackson, Battle Creek, and Ypsilanti. In 2007, Joe now in his eighties, decided to sell each of the locations to each of the shop managers

Candaice Leonard purchased the Westnedge location. In 2008 a new location was established in Portage, Michigan, and quickly gained a loyal customer base.

I’ve been coming to Coachlite for 5 years, I used to go to the Westnedge location until it closed recently. But I can say with full confidence that they’ll always do a fantastic job! Especially Mike who has always been my preferred barber for about 2 years now! A standard men’s haircut will run you about $20, $19 if you’re a gold member. No extra for a shape-up!

The stylists really take time with their clients to make sure they’re happy. My stylist, Cassandra, did a great job on my cut and color. She offered styling tips and product suggestions. While I was getting my hair done, I watched as the other stylists took great care of their clients too and engaged with them in fun conversations. It made a great experience for me and I’ll be going back again!
